Grey Ant

Born in Illinois, Grey Ant designer Grant Krajecki possessed an insatiable drive to create. He spent his early years traveling with his family in their VW van. It was then that Krajecki discovered his mother’s sewing machine and started surprising her with his creations. Before long his wares were getting too wild for Chicago and in 1989, he moved to Los Angeles and settled into gritty downtown. He lined up jobs at several costume houses that catered to the more eclectic needs of the film and television industries. Creations included a "naughty & nice" costume for a pair of porn star conjoined twins and a motorcycle get-up for an elephant. It was on movie sets and in wardrobe departments that he mastered the intricacies of fabric. In June of 1998, Krajecki launched Grey Ant, named after the affectionate moniker given to him by his family after years of whining his name, "G-r-a-n-t." The collection was the embodiment of the hole he saw in fashion and included hip-hugger pants, winged and domain sleeved tops, and sleek nylon dresses in a palette of black, gray, red and white. It was bold, graphic, and a total backlash to everything that was trendy that year. Forward-minded customers on both coasts embraced Krajecki’s approach to style "I like to think the Grey Ant customer is someone who is rebellious in nature and not afraid to be the first on the block to wear something different and new." said Krajecki.
