Lyell Emma Fletcher, born 1970 in Sydney Australia, moved to New York City in 1994. While managing a music venue, she started a small clothing line, Holmes & Lyell, eventually selling to Barneys, Fred Segal and other boutiques across the USA and Japan. In December of 2003 Emma opened her first boutique on Elizabeth St. in downtown Manhattan featuring her newly refined line, Lyell, accompanied by a well-curated collection of pre-war vintage clothes and accessories. Emma’s original line of dresses and blouses are inspired by the same era, yet streamlined for a wearable modern sensibility. The aesthetic is focused and consistently feminine with understated movie star glamour. Lyell’s immaculate tailoring, original patterns and plush fabrics sustains her loyal following and have prompted write-ups in Vogue, Time Magazine, Time Out, Elle, Marie Claire and Lucky. |
